Music Programming

Over the past 20 years LCB conductors have programmed nearly 700 different pieces of music in a wide range of musical styles. There have been many different types of soloists and featured performers. Here's your chance to request your favorites. Do you like medleys, transcriptions of symphonic works, marches, contemporary band pieces or the "classics"? Are you fond of a certain composer? Or a particular genre? Would you like more or less soloists? Perhaps you'd like to hear from a particular local performer...

  1. I'm not a fan of medleys (although I can understand the audience appeal). I prefer playing a good arrangement of anything rather than a poor arrangement of "popular" music.

  2. So is the issue medleys, or good literature? What makes a "good" or "poor" arrangement? I agree, we need to be playing the best quality literature regardless of form or style. My beef would be too much repetition in programming. There are many selections we have played 2 or 3 times in 3 or 4 years. There is more great repertoire out there than we could ever perform in a lifetime. Let's find more of it.
